ReplyDeleteEvery year Mum and I go to Bury St Edmund's Christmas market, and we always go to this little stall which makes tiny dutch pancakes. We go just as the afternoon light turns to twilight, and watch the men turn the fat little pancakes over deftly with a fork with only one tine. We share a plate of them dusted with icing sugar and drizzled with maple syrup. It is usually chilly by then and we are tired, and these hot little mouthfuls of sweetness are just what we need.

Favourite Christmas food now is Christmas cake with some strong cheddar. The two flavours are fantastic together. Oh, and nothing says Christmas quite like a Terry's chocolate orange.
When my mum was alive, it used to be her mince pies that were my favourite Christmas food. No one has ever made a mince pie quite as good as my mum (I am biased of course).
I miss the warmth and smell of baking mince pies when I walked into her kitchen and seeing her hot and bothered and bustling around with flour all down the front of her apron.
My favourite is Christmas pudding with lashings of brandy cream ππ CookingTheBooks @kayleighw851

ReplyDeleteWow I can't believe its the most wonderful time of the year again π❤️ My husband and I are planning to go home to the Philippines to celebrate Christmas with our parents but it's not happening due to the current pandemic.
ReplyDeleteWe will surely miss the Christmas festivities that we grew up with which makes this season so special. One of this is the Filipino dawn mass (a nine days series of mass until the dawn of Christmas).
Every after mass, there are many stalls and sellers of steamed rice cakes (bibingka and puto bumbong in our language) outside the church. My granny and parents will buy several of it, still steaming hot, wrapped in banana leaf, and hurry home with us, the children. It would be served by my mum with freshly brewed coffee for the adults and hot chocolate for us with lovely Christmas song at the background. It was such a warm tradition which I always look forward to ever since I was a child which makes steamed rice cakes as my favorite festive food.
Thank you Heidi for the opportunity to relieve and share this wonderful memories and have a Merriest Christmas to you, your family and to all of your subscribers.

ReplyDeleteThat’s such a hard one! Bread Sauce has to be on the list of favs. Literally only have it at Xmas time. Chocolate truffles are also a Christmas staple, especially homemade. But Christmas Dinner itself has to be a sign bet. It’s like no other roast at no other time of year. All the little extras making it special, surrounded by family and friends. Another smashing book from you to read as the nights draw in. Love cuddling up by the fire with a Swain Xmas novel in my hand. Great Competition x

ReplyDeleteOooh this is such a tough one as I love a mincemeat pie (has to be shortcrust though - a puff one won't do). But in the interests of keeping in my mum-in-laws's good books, I'll say her boozy Christmas cake. She feeds it with brandy for months!π
ReplyDeleteIt has to be satsumas! Weird but true. Seasonal ones taste so much better somehow...
ReplyDeleteIt has to be Christmas Cake with a chunk of Stilton on the side to help combat the sweetness
