...and we're off...

OK, OK so perhaps I was being a little dramatic but I stand by what I said - those first few words are tricky when it comes to something as monumental as a second attempt at writing a novel. However, I have produced over 3,000 words today and the project seems slightly (only slightly) less daunting now.

Of course I am riddled with the same old fear that I may get so many chapters in and throw up my hands in despair but, if it was easy everyone would be at it wouldn't they?

I'll keep you posted.

  1. Yay, 3000 words! I know what you mean about those first few words - I've rewritten my beginning countless times and I know the words I have now will probably not be in the final draft. But I think having a good beginning is an incentive to keep going. I have the same fear about throwing it all in half way through but I always think that giving it a go is better than not doing it at all. So keep going and best of luck!

  2. Last year I managed 77,000 words before deciding it wasn't working out but nothing ventured, nothing gained. My creative writing tutor reminded me there are plenty of published authors with that first attempt languishing in a drawer or on a memory stick. Well, i'm the eternal optimistic - maybe this could be the one! H-J
