RNA Summer Party

What a week! Not only have I been catching up after the fabulous At Home With event organised by Simon and Schuster and finishing off endless bits and bobs (all of which are adorable), to coincide with the Summer At Skylark Farm publication day on June 4th, I've also been back down to London for my first RNA party and the Joan Hessayon announcement.

Anyone even remotely connected to Twitter-sphere will know that the very lovely (and enviably elegant) Clare Harvey was the worthy winner with her fabulous debut The Gunner Girl. Congratulations Clare and congratulations to all the nominees. It really is a credit to the wonderful RNA New Writers Scheme that so many of us made the list this year and it was an honour to be among such talented company.

My first party experience was everything I expected and along with catching up with my wonderful editor Clare Hey and fabulous new publicist Jamie Criswell, the evening was spent rushing round trying to read name badges and meet as many social media friends In Real Life as was humanly possible in the time available! I always forget to take photos but here is one particularly lovely shot of Helen J Rolfe and Holly Martin that I did manage to snap early on.

The party ended early, around 9.30 but my traveling companion Jenni Keer and I finally arrived back in Norfolk just after midnight and by then I was exceedingly grateful for the wisdom Jenni had shared the week before. 'Wear flats to and from,' she told me sagely 'and just heels for the event.' Now that really was a great idea!

  1. Another lot of great photos. I haven't read Gunner Girls and think that if it beat your book then that's an endorsement for me to get it. I don't think I could wear heels even for the party.

  5. Congrats! I was also nominated for the same while working in my old company. They booked one of the Chicago venues for the celebration and there were speeches, music and good food. I still remember that day very well because I wore my sister’s finest dress that day.
