Today I am delighted to welcome fellow RNA member, Mick Arnold to the blog. Welcome Mick and thank you for joining us today to talk about your wonderful book -
Wild Blue Yonder
This is such an honour. My thanks to Heidi
for letting me onto her blog to talk about 'Wild Blue Yonder', book 2 of my
'Broken Wings' series, published 26th July by the Wild Rose Press.
I write World War 2 Historical Sagas, with my current series being based around a group of women of the Air Transport Auxiliary. This was a vital part of Great Britain's war effort, as they were responsible for the delivery of all the aircraft the Royal Air Force operated.
Of great service, this saved causing
unnecessary fatigue amongst the combat pilots and during the war, the 1250 men
and women ferried around 309,000 aircraft of some 147 different types, none of
which had a radio or any armament in case they ran into trouble or enemy aircraft
(which did happen). Unique amongst this service was RAF Hamble, near
Southampton in the South of England, which was entirely staffed by women, and
this is where my stories are based.
Oh, I hope I didn’t waffle above too much.
Only, since I found out about this unit, especially the women, I've become so
proud of them that I tell all and sundry I meet everything I can get away with
before they grow bored.
Air Transport Auxiliary pilot Doris Winter is accused of stealing a valuable item from a famous Hollywood movie star, now a captain in the US Army Air Corps, after a dance at the air base in England where he's stationed. Gathering her close friends together, she's determined to clear her name.
Ruth's POW son suffers a life-changing injury just as her own cottage takes damage in an air raid and Penny's estranged little sister unexpectedly turns up, having run away from school. Together with the ongoing thefts of items of clothing and surprise personal revelations, these all threaten to hamper their investigation.
In spite of the worsening war situation, they must
band together to rise above their troubles and prove love and friendship is
worth fighting for.
